Dalmatian Coast Cocktail

Dress code

What to wear

Mid-September on Hvar is warm, bright and forgiving: high twenties in the day, softer once the sun drops behind the hills. Dress for a garden party on a Mediterranean island - colour, flowing fabrics, and shoes that can meet a cobblestone.

Dalmatian Coast Cocktail

Cocktail dress, warmed by the luxury of the European coast. For women, a long, tea, or midi dress in loved colours, patterns, and fabrics. Flowing pantsuits, skirts and tops, or anything that you'll find comfort in throughout the day.

For men, a linen or lightweight suit worn with an open collar or a tie, whichever feels like you. We ask for no black or grey suits, please.

For the men

Lean into

  • That one outfit you've thought 'If only I had somewhere to wear that'

  • Linen, silk, cotton and anything that breathes

  • Dresses, sets, pantsuits, trousers

  • A block heel, a wedge, or a backup pair of flats

Best avoided

  • White, ivory and cream on the women

  • Black tie, dinner jackets, full black suits

  • Stilettos - for ankle safety on cobblestone

  • Anything you would not sit down to dinner in

Wednesday · 15 September · the welcome Evening

Cocktail, a notch softer

The first evening is drinks and hellos, so keep it easy: a summer dress, a jumpsuit, or linen trousers with a shirt. No jacket required, and nothing that needs ironing twice. This is an opportunity to bring out darker colours, or to wear something as showstopping as you would for the wedding.

Women

Midi, tea, or floor length dresses, a skirt and top, or wide linen trousers.

Men

Linen shirt and trousers, or a polo and chinos. Loafers or sandals.

And on the Friday

Recovery day is coastal casual: swimmers, shorts, a linen shirt over the top.

September on the island

Dress for the weather

Late summer, not high summer. Expect bright days in the high twenties, sea still warm from August, and evenings that turn pleasant rather than cold. Rain is unlikely but never impossible.

Sun

Days sit around 27°C. A hat, sunglasses and something over your shoulders for the beach.

Evening

It drops to the high teens after dark. A shawl, a light knit or a blazer is enough.

Underfoot

Pitve is cobblestone and the beaches are pebble. Bring a flat you can walk in and sandals for the water.

Just in case

One light rain layer between you and a shower, and something you can swim in most days.

Comfortable, colourful, and ready for a late night.
